This 7-session course is for anyone who is concerned about their own use of drugs or alcohol. Whether or not you have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder, if you feel that you have been losing control of your alcohol or drug use, these classes can help you to make positive changes.
Addiction Recovery Skills, as a program, is intended to be non-judgemental, motivational, practical and useful for recovery planning. The course will equip participants with up-to-date information about substance use, mental health, coping strategies and supports. It is not intended as a replacement for therapy or treatment.
Course Objectives:
• Define substance use disorder (SUD)/addiction.
• Explain the brain’s reward system and the addiction cycle.
• Identify your self-motivation for change.
• Understand mental illness, emotions and how these interact with SUD.
• Identify barriers to reducing or quitting substances.
• Describe ways to overcome addictive behaviours and set up for success.
• Practice mindful approaches to recovery.
• Create a recovery plan
